- Noise
“The room is at an advantage relative to other rooms in the house in that it does not see onto the street so does not hear the rubbish trucks (with come a 7am every morning). However, as it sees onto a gutter which is filled with pigeons, I am quite often woken up by their cooing.” (Jan 2008)
- Gyp Room
“4 people share the gyp room. It is less than ten metres from the room. It is of average size so that many people can be in it at once.” (Jan 2008)
- Bath Room
“There are two toilets on my floor, one of them with a shower, one just a toilet (this is very useful for when two people need to go). As the toilet on the floor below us has got a bathtub, our shower tends to be more popular, but this high demand hasnt proved a problem. The shower takes a little time to heat up, and the room itself is a little chilly as the window is permanently wedged open, but our bedder keeps the shower very clean so it's pretty good.” (Jan 2008)
- Furniture
“There is a desk of average size, a bed (that is quite small),a bedside table, a small coffee table,an armchair (it's blue), a chest of drawers and a desk chair. Also provided by college was one lamp, though I'm told you can ask for more. The furniture is pretty unremarkable but in good repair. There is also an inbuilt closet which allows space to hang pretty much all you could want with an overhead one with a lock for when you go away in the holidays, as well as 3 spacious shelves for books, and a pinboard. A nice feature is a neat little fireplace.” (Jan 2008)
- Best Feature
“LOCATION: an enormous plus, as it's a minute and a half (exactly) from College, and right next to Sainsbury's with quick access to market square through border's.Really easy to get anywhere quickly, and no need to get someone to walk you home after a night out. LAYOUT: This room is small but it's very well organised, the bed goes in a special nook. Also, the negative reasons listed below are quite easily solved by buying a couple of posters, and getting a lamp from college. The pigeon noises may be annoying but far preferable to the noise of the street” (Jan 2008)
- Worst Feature
“VIEW + PIGEONS: You look out onto a gutter full of pigeons (and their droppings) and there is effectively a brick wall in front of you, which is not great either in terms of lighting or in terms of claustrophobia. Even so, the room is a lot less dark then many others as it does have two windows. WALLS: at this stage, the walls are pretty dirty (and college have refused to clean them or repaint them)” (Jan 2008)
- General Comments
“Heating is a little bit touch and go, as the heater definitely works but you have to put it on very high to heat the part of the room where the bed is. The bed is also right next to a window so this can occasionally make it a little cold, but it is worth waking up to have a window opposite you! NOISE: like most college housing, this isnt the most soundproofed of places so you can hear everything that goes on in the corridoor and quite a lot of what goes on in your neighbour's room. Our bedder is very friendly. There arent quite enough sockets, but this can quickly be fixed by an extension cable.” (Jan 2008)
