Overlooking a street.
- Noise
“Overlooks Gardies and McDonalds so pretty noisy almost every night, but double glazing cuts almost all of it out. Directly above La Raza, which has a club night on Tuesdays, so loud music that is audible but not too disturbing. Some noise during the daytime from shoppers/tourists etc.” (Jan 2008)
“noise isn't really a problem. Some on Friday and Saturday nights but the double glazing means that it is minimal.” (Feb 2007)
“Background noise all the time. Especially noisy at 11pm and 1am on weekdays and all day weekends” (Feb 2005)
“Can get very noisy at night due to Gardies but it will be gone next year so it might be quite quiet. 1-2am is usually the worst but you get used to it.” (Jan 2004)
- Gyp Room
“Gyp room directly opposite. Medium size, with plenty of cupboard space but a small fridge. Shared between seven.” (Jan 2008)
“ok size gyp room shared between 6 and right opposite the room!” (Feb 2007)
“7 people sharing. 2 hobs, one fridge, 1 dryer. Just opposite my room. May be noisy at night when people have parties.” (Feb 2005)
“7 people sharing gyp room. Not as small as some but not that big either. There is not much fridge space. Cupboard for each of us is good. Only 2 hobs... There is a tumble dryer and that can be noisy if people use it over night. Distance minimal opposite my room good and bad because you can hear conversations. Last year gyp room used to be a social centre and ppl used to complain about the noise.” (Jan 2004)
- Bath Room
“Bathroom divided into three - loo, bath + loo, and shower. Shared between five. Just down the corridor.” (Jan 2008)
“good bathroom facilities close to room.” (Feb 2007)
“small cubicle shower, 1 bathtub. Very near room. Bathroom with tub has no curtains/screen. window opens to adjacent private accomodation. Shower is small and clogs up, flooding the cubicle” (Feb 2005)
“2 toilets shared between 5. One shower shared between 7 but there are 4 in the house so I have never had to queue most was walking 20 secs down the corridor. There is a bath too 2 shared between 24 people. Shower does get blocked often but it works. Sometimes floods.” (Jan 2004)
- Furniture
“A desk, bookshelves, a low table, a table-plus-shoe-rack-thing, a large built-in wardrobe with hanging space, a long shelf and a big cupboard above it, two armchairs (although that may change), a desk chair, and a chest of drawers. Pinboard.” (Jan 2008)
“desk, shelves, soft chair, 2 desk chairs, chest of drawers, big built-in wardrobe, bed, coffee table, beside table...” (Feb 2007)
“Newish furniture. Large wardrobe for storage” (Feb 2005)
“Desk is quite small, with a computer not much same is available. Bed squeeks but I have fixed it and it is a lot better. 2 small side tables very useful. One chair - the new blue ones not very comfortable. Fair amount of storage space but not enough for me as I have too much stuff. There is also a book shelf - size adjustable if you have a screw driver.” (Jan 2004)
- Best Feature
“Cosy but not poky, relatively large, light and airy (although not much direct sunlight), and not shabby at all. Large wardrobe, so lots of storage space. Rose Cresc is very sociable because there are so many people living there (22), and it is in the centre of town so very convenient - close to Sainsbury's, the market, college, and Fez/Cindies/Soultree etc.” (Jan 2008)
“the location, the view is quite nice too (straight down Rose Crescent). It's also a pretty good size in comparison to others in Rose Cresc.” (Feb 2007)
“Don't have to move stuff into storage at the end of term. Seldom used for conference guests. Close to most amenities. Laundry within the building” (Feb 2005)
“It is a decent size for Rose Crescent and it is close to the toilet and kitchen. Also the location is very good. Very is not bad over the Rose Crescent you can see if you have a visitor” (Jan 2004)
- Worst Feature
“The noise from the street. Not much direct sunlight. Possibly too many people sharing the gyp room.” (Jan 2008)
“Arrangements for moving in - have to come on a day/at a time then the bollards by St John's are down (either Sundays or 3am!)” (Feb 2007)
“Noise, Bathroom/shower facilities, cold corridors.” (Feb 2005)
“The intercome does not work properly, you can't hear them. And you cannot see the visitor form your window due to shops. So you don't know who is buzzing. Size could be bigger but definately bigger than Rm 20. Noise can be annoying if it is too hot to keep the window shut.” (Jan 2004)
- General Comments
“Three double sockets (I brought an extension lead); decor's fine, not shabby, lots of wardrobe space; very nice bedder.” (Jan 2008)
“Good light, can sometimes be a little dark, bedder is excellent, ok carpet, decor - the room was repainted last year so it's good, lots of wardrobe space, lots of sockets... all in all, pretty good room.” (Feb 2007)
“Sunlight good in the mornings. Bedders can be very noisy but not intrusive and sometimes do not clean at all. They can also lock you out while you are in the shower (happened to me about 4 times over 1.5 years). Heating is generally good, radiator used to leak but it has been fixed. Wardrobe could be bigger and it squeaks when you open it. Front door is now electric which is convenient. If you have a computer you might be short of sockets if you want a desk lamp without ext. lead.” (Jan 2004)
