Noise

“It's always quiet in HC, except when they are mowing the lawn, or you have noisy neighbours, or the freshers are messing around in the court. The big exception are during bops. They are nightmares for A-block residents (unless you go to them). The noise is unbelievably loud, and the room shakes with it, even though I am 2 floors above. The same goes for all the rooms on my floor (A17 - A23)” (Jan 2008)

Gyp Room

“A few steps from my room and small. Shared by 7 people, with 2 sockets (one for the fridge) So you can only use the microwave, toaster, kettle, Foreman grill one at a time (unless you unplug the fridge temporarily, but people DO forget to plug it back in and the food goes off!). It has no window so it always smells in there.” (Jan 2008)

Bath Room

“There's a shower, and two baths (with toilet) on the same floor. Two baths on the floor above (one can be converted in a shower). None of the showers work properly. There is only boiling water coming out from them. The one on my floor is only normal from 12 midnight to 1am. The only ones that work are the two showers (one for men, one for women) two floors below. Thus it is shared by over 25 people. It's ridiculous. And those showers aren't very good either.” (Jan 2008)

Furniture

“Large desk, office chair with arms (bad fit for the table), large coffee table, a piece of carpet, comfy sofa and a large bookshelf. There are also some mounted shelves next to the washbasin, which is unique amongst the rooms on my corridor.” (Jan 2008)

Best Feature

“The size. It's quite big, and it's the same layout as most other HC rooms so I didn't have to readjust my living habits from last year at all! Being next to the Sidgwick Site meant getting up 10 minutes before a lecture and you'll still make it. And you can go back to make lunch instead of buying expensive food from the Buttery/Nadis. And it is usually very quiet.” (Jan 2008)

Worst Feature

“The sun shines into the room during the afternoon and the room becomes boiling hot. The balcony (shared by everyone on the same floor) can be annoying when your neighbour insists on keep his/her window open while chatting or playing music. Usually these room get chosen by firstly, a group of friends, with the odd people from lower down the ballot. You may feel a little isolated from your friends who live somewhere else. So it's best to go into the ballot together with them!” (Jan 2008)

General Comments

“Quite a few sockets. Literally no heating (it's always very low). There is too much sunlight. The bedder (male!) is alright. He sings along to his mp3 while he cleans, which can get a little annoying. Huge wardrobe space.” (Jan 2008)
