Noise

“The nature of Harvey Court (wooden and stone floors in the corridors) means that it's like a giant echo chamber. You can hear every slam of every door. Having said that, you can't hear much external noise. When there's a bop in the JCR downstairs, the whole of A-Block can hear it, and things have been known to shake from the bass even up here... it goes on till 1:30, but you do actually get used to it, and it's only a couple of weekends per term. I can even sleep through it now!” (Feb 2006)

Gyp Room

“Quite small for HC, but much more space than some of the Old Courts gyrooms. There are only 3 people on this staircase, so there's never a problem if you want to use it. It's just a few paces away from the door of this room! The facilities leave a bit to be desired - 2 electric rings, a fridge and, um, that's it. Bring a multi-plug adapter as there's only 1 socket available for toasters, kettles etc.” (Feb 2006)

Bath Room

“Shared with 2 other people. The toilet cubicle opens onto the gyproom area and has no washbasin. There's a bath as well. If you prefer showers, there's one downstairs.” (Feb 2006)

Furniture

“In the bedroom there's a bookcase, a coffee table and a reasonably sized wardrobe. In the living room there's a fairly big desk with a lamp and drawers, a decent swivel chair, two coffee tables, two bookcases and two pinboards! There's also a "comfy chair" in each room, but a)they're not comfortable and b) they do have a tendency to collapse when you sit on them (keep your feet on the ground at all times)...” (Feb 2006)

Best Feature

“Having two rooms, the view over the garden, the balcony, lots and lots of natural light!” (Feb 2006)

Worst Feature

“Massive south-facing windows mean that the sun comes in all day. All the heat gets trapped in the room - it can be like working in a greenhouse. Also, the heating in the bedroom cannot be turned off, which makes the situation even worse in there. It's bearable in winter, but in summer it will be horrible...” (Feb 2006)

General Comments

“Recently there has been a new bedder in A-Block who starts work on this staircase at 8 AM. There's no carpet. You may want to bring extension leads etc as there are hardly any sockets.” (Feb 2006)
