- Noise
“The Van of Life is pretty close to my bedroom and can sometimes be noisy but the window is double glazed so it's not too bad and you soon get used to it. Buskers in market square on Saturdays are also quite irritating but apart from that it's fairly quiet.” (Feb 2006)
“There isn't much noise at all because the rooms are on the third floor and well away from gardies!” (Jan 2005)
“The bedroom has double glazing and is high up, so reasonably quiet.” (Jan 2004)
“Some noise from Rose Crescent and the market but the room is high up and there's double glazing so you can't hear that much of it.” (Jan 2003)
- Gyp Room
“Rubbish! 8 people share it and there's storage space for only about two people's things. There's no worktop space and only one fridge (but some people have a fridge in their room). But it does have gas hobs which are so much better than those crappy portable electric hobs you get everywhere else.” (Feb 2006)
“Tiny, one fridge between 8 people, near room. My room-mate and I bought our own fridge to put in our room, which we may be willing to sell on.” (Jan 2005)
“Round the corner. 3 bunsen burners and shared by about 8 people. The door is proped open with a broom.” (Jan 2004)
“Gyp room has 3 gas hobs and 1 fridge between 8, and is situated on the other side of the stairs.” (Jan 2003)
- Bath Room
“Toilet and shower/bath are just outside the room and are shared between 8 but I've never had to wait. The window in the toilet doesn't seem to close so it can be quite chilly in the middle of the night but the shower is nice and powerful.” (Feb 2006)
“Toilet and shower next to room, adequate. Big bath.” (Jan 2005)
“The toilet and shower are next door. About 6 people use it, so not noticeably busy.” (Jan 2004)
“Shower/bath room is next door but one, as is the nearest loo.” (Jan 2003)
- Furniture
“In my bedroom I have a bedside table, a big chest of drawers, a desk and a fitted wardrobe. In the living room we have the best sofa in college, two armchairs and another dining chair, a dining table, a coffee table, a bookcase, a fridge and big fitted wardrobes.” (Feb 2006)
“Sitting room: huge and very comfy sofa! dining table, 2 comfy chairs, 2 normal chairs, coffe table, 2 v v large cupboards, 2 sets of shelves. Bedroom: large desk, medium wardrobe and cupboard, chest of draws, 2 chairs. There's more than enough furniture, and it's all good.” (Jan 2005)
“Bedroom: Bed, built-in cupboard, medium desk, chair, sink, dresser and bedside table. Living Room: Dining table, 2 dining table chairs, 2 armchairs, one 1960s Fridge, One amazing 3 person fully-reclining sofa, (this is ours and may be left if the college allows it) two huge built-in cupboards, two dressers and a gas fire.” (Jan 2004)
“Desk in each of the bedrooms and plenty of wardrobe space and a couple of small chairs. The other room has about 2-4 small chairs, 3 armchairs,a large table, lots of cupboard space and a small coffee table.” (Jan 2003)
- Best Feature
“It has loads of storage space and is really big and bright. It's really fun sharing with a mate (as long as you're absolutely sure you can live with each other!) and our comfy sofa and TV mean the room is really social.” (Feb 2006)
“The huge sitting room. It's a brilliant room to share as long as you can get on with your roommate. There's also loads of storage space.” (Jan 2005)
“All the facilities and being able to share a proper 'flat' style arrangement. Also the price is very cheap!” (Jan 2004)
“These rooms are a shared set, there are two sizeable bedrooms and a shared living area. Each of the individual bedrooms is about the size of a HC room but the living area is at least 4 or 5 times as big again. The best feature of the room is the huge living room area. Also, loads of storage space!” (Jan 2003)
- Worst Feature
“There aren't any, its a great room.” (Feb 2006)
“The lighting isn't good, so you'll probably need an uplighter in the main room.” (Jan 2005)
“Lack of plug sockets, there are only two in each room.” (Jan 2004)
“Lack of plug sockets is a pain and the radiators in the bedrooms are not very effective!” (Jan 2003)
- General Comments
“This set is brighter than the identical one below because it's on the floor above and it also has a better sofa so go for this one if you're unsure between the two! The bedder is great - really good at her job, good for a chat if you want a distraction from work but lets you get on with it if you're busy. They've put in new sockets since last year so there's no problem plugging in fridge, lamps, tv, kettle etc etc. This is definitely the room to go for if you've got a good mate who's really high up the ballot - I got bumped up about 100 places because my room-mate could select the room and who she wanted to share with, so make friends with someone clever!” (Feb 2006)
“There's only one double socket in the sitting room, which is a nightmare as we have a fridge, tv, light, video, dvd player etc etc to plug in. So you'll need lots of extension cables! Very good gas fire. Decor ok, if old. More than enough storage space for 2 people, however much stuff you have.” (Jan 2005)
“Comfy and warm, the living room is huge, the bedder is friendly, although the bedroom heating is not amazing. Really can't recommend any other room, unless you don't have someone to share with...” (Jan 2004)
“The room is really well positioned on the other side of the stairwell so is very quiet. Not sure about the bedder as she is rarely seen. Sunlight is limited due to the narrowness of Rose Crescent. Furniture is functional but drab.” (Jan 2003)
